About Us

Organisation Back Ground

Uganda has over eighty percent of her population engaged in peasant subsistence agriculture; the largest percentage of these peasants are mostly women and children below fifteen years who live in rural areas of Uganda and derive their livelihood from peasant sector, characterized with very little or no

income at all yet most organizations supported by both government and the donor community do produce goods and services for sale to these peasants already hit by poverty, a low purchasing power and very low prosperity to consume.

Attempts by government of Uganda towards this direction through National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) nearly five years now has not put money in the pockets of many.  Since it gives farm inputs to five model farmers per parish.  Unfortunately, it is rear to get orphan house hold selected among model farmers.  Although in few cases NAADS carry out the training, however, they do not link peasants to the market and therefore leave them in the hands of exploitative middle men

This project has been engaging fifteen peasant women households whose members are currently benefiting form KIPEFA revenue in Paya Sub-County in Tororo District where according to 2002 Uganda census had four thousand nine hundred sixty peasants households with the population of thirty six thousand.

It is true that local Birds reared under free range system has had many problems in Uganda; they search for food in the bush which retard their growth and expose them to prey.  They are not treated when diseases attack them which reduce their number and share shelter with peasant families.  This system has caused the loss of local birds i.e hen, turkeys and ducks and their products due to poor management and diseases resulting in untold poverty among peasant households in Uganda.

Besides, the birds and their products reach market through forced surplus and when there is an epidemic of cocodiosis and other diseases.

Yet these problems have not caught the attention of government of Uganda and donor agencies.  The project shall target two hundred orphan house holds in each of the ten sub-counties in Tororo District.  And that every twenty orphans house holds especially those rearing domestic birds, hens, turkey and ducks shall receive the following Poultry inputs: poultry house, drinkers, troughs, feeds and vaccines to allow them commence commercial poultry farming after the training.  The project shall link them with both local and foreign markets.
